Music in Worship

Music is an important part of our worship service. It helps us express our faith through all kinds of emotion, from joy to sorrow. It’s a way for us to engage in worship creatively, enabling us to share our burdens and our celebrations to God. We have been gifted with voices and instruments. When we use those gifts to give thanks to God, we are enriching our spiritual connection with creation, making a beautiful noise onto the Lord.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord. – Psalm 98:4-6 (NRSVUE)

Knox-St. Paul’s Choir

The Knox-St. Paul’s Choir is led by our music director every Sunday. The hymns sung in the service come from three books: Voices United (VU), More Voices (MV), and Then Let Us Sing (TLUS). We show the words to every hymn on our projector screen so worshippers can follow along without having to use books. Hymn books are available to borrow during the service if you wish.

Our choir also perform special pieces of music called ‘Anthems’. These are typically sung from September to May. The choir continues to sing hymns in the summer months, taking a rest from Anthems.

If you are interested in joining the choir, please speak to our music director. The choir practices once a week on Thursdays at 10:30 AM at the church. We welcome anyone with an interest in music, regardless of skill. Our choir sings in four part harmony (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) and opportunities for special or solo performances are available.

Handbell Choir

Knox-St. Paul’s hosts a Handbell Choir that performs during special services like Christmas and Easter. Our group of musicians play handbells tuned to various notes. This offers a special and unique musical experience. Each musician is responsible for a particular set of bells, ringing them at specific times according to the sheet music. If you are interested in joining our Handbell Choir, please speak to our music director.

Special Musicians

From time to time, Knox-St. Paul’s welcomes guest musicians to perform alongside our music director during the service. If you are interested in bringing your musical instrument to worship, we’d love to have you join us! Co-ordinate with our music director and help make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
