Who we are

Welcome to Knox-St. Paul’s United Church. We are a community of faith within the United Church of Canada, a protestant denomination of Christianity. Whether you are a devoted Christian or exploring your faith for the first time, you are welcome here! We gather together every Sunday morning at 10 AM to worship God in our sanctuary. As a church located in Cornwall, Ontario, we are committed to our mission and vision of Helping Build a City Where No One Journeys Alone. We do this by actively involving ourselves in the life of Cornwall and all its residents, supporting local community organizations and opening ourselves to everyone looking for a spiritual home.

No matter who you are, how old you are, where you come from, who you love, or how you identify, Knox-St. Paul’s United Church welcomes everyone to join us in fulfilling our mission and vision. Whether you join us for Sunday worship or help to support our various community partners and projects, we’d love to connect with you.

Land Acknowledgement

Knox-St. Paul’s United Church is located on the traditional territory of the Audenosaunee (Iroquois), Mohawk, Haudenosaunee (St Lawrence Iroquois), and Huron-Wendat peoples. Our property is situated on lands negotiated by Captain William Crawford on behalf of the British (now Canadian) Crown in October 1783. Known as Crawford’s Purchases, the land was bought by the Crown to provide a space for Loyalists who fought for the British during the American Revolution.

Part of the city of Cornwall is also situated on lands defined by Treaty 57, known as the St. Regis Purchase. Signed on June 1, 1847 between representatives of the Crown and Mohawk peoples, this treaty encompasses a strip of land called the “Nutfield Tract” consisting of land from the St. Lawrence River running North towards the Ottawa River. While our church property is not situated on Treaty 57 land, the city that we serve does in part, thus we also acknowledge Treaty 57.

We recognize that the Government of Canada and various Christian church denominations (including our own) have historically engaged in harmful practices against First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, Knox-St. Paul’s United Church begins every worship service with a land acknowledgement, recognizing the original caretakers of the land we gather on. We seek to maintain good and healthy relations with the First Nations people and their traditional lands.

Community Engagement

We are more than just a community that gathers on Sunday morning. We worship God through our Sunday meditations and prayers, as well as our physical actions in the community. Whether its helping to feed the community at the Agapè centre with our Feed My Sheep ministry or supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community by being part of Diversity Cornwall’s Pride Festival, Knox-St. Paul’s United Church believes in taking a proactive approach to service.
