Key Responsibilities:
- Set up rooms for weekly programs and meetings (e.g., Sunday School, board meetings, coffee hour)
- Prepare church facilities for special events such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, craft sales, and community gatherings
- Clean and sanitize washrooms; restock supplies as needed
- Carry out weekly garbage, recycling, and green waste collection and disposal
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
- Update exterior signage for special events
- Conduct regular building and grounds inspections; report maintenance concerns or damages
- Develop and follow a cleaning plan for the entire building complex
- Attend staff meetings as required
Sanctuary Duties:
- Ensure the Sanctuary is clean and ready for weekly services and special occasions
- Support volunteers in preparing the Chancel and Sanctuary (e.g., seasonal banners, décor)
Building & Grounds Maintenance:
- Clear sidewalks of snow and ice; apply salt/sand as needed
- Perform light groundskeeping (weeding, leaf cleanup, exterior garbage pickup)
- Maintain property, including but not limited to chairs, lighting, and minor repairs
- Oversee and monitor building systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, kitchen equipment, sump pumps, fire protection, etc.)
- Coordinate with contractors for regular inspections and maintenance (elevator, furnace, AC, fire systems, etc.)
- Monitor security, fire alarm, and communication systems
- Assist with painting, repairs, and annual window cleaning
Accountability:
- Work collaboratively with the Minister, Church Administrator, Board Chair, and Chair of Property
- Submit weekly timesheets and participate in an annual performance review
- Report to the Ministry & Personnel Committee through designated supervisors
Qualifications:
- High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent experience
- 1–2 years’ custodial or building maintenance experience preferred
- Physically able to perform duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs
- WHMIS certification and waste disposal knowledge an asset
- Good communication skills; fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, and maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of safe work procedures
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
- A clear police record check is mandatory
