The Role

We are seeking a dynamic Online Community Animator to enhance and manage our communications strategy. This role will involve researching the communication needs of our faith community, and helping develop programs, events, and digital tools that deepen connection and engagement. The position includes both onsite collaboration and remote work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and enhance channels of communication, including social media, website, newsletters, print materials, and more
  • Promote the church’s activities and values to both internal and external audiences, with a focus on reaching new demographics
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to create a year-round communications plan and content calendar
  • Train and support staff and volunteers in communication tools and digital platforms, as needed
  • Assess the effectiveness of communications initiatives and provide recommendations for growth and improvement

Qualifications and Skills:

Core Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to communicate professionally across platforms (email, phone, Zoom, social media)
  • Research and analytical skills to inform communications strategy
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Creative, adaptable, and solutions-oriented
  • Proficient in social media
  • Proficient in hosting and using Zoom platform for meetings
  • Proficient in Windows OS and MS Office

Digital Proficiency

  • Social media management (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Video conferencing and hosting (Zoom)
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Content creation tools (Canva or similar platforms)
  • Website editing/design (an asset)

Teamwork and Initiative

  • Works well with diverse groups (staff, volunteers, trustees, congregation)
  • Takes initiative, shares resources, and contributes ideas
  • Can lead when needed and follow direction when appropriate

Assets

  • Familiarity with United Church of Canada or Christian faith traditions
  • Experience with website with United Church of Canada theology
  • Bilingual in English and French
